Pretty marquetry jewelry or trinket box. The curved lid is inlaid with an ornate pattern of vines and flowers in the style of the marquetry artisans of Sorrento, Italy. Made mid 20th. 7" x 5.5" x 2" tall.

Hotel Cecil, London, Antique Burl Box. Here's a fine piece of memorabilia from the legendary Hotel Cecil in London. When opened in 1896 it was the largest hotel in Europe with 800 rooms. Although many historical events there, the hotel is most famous for being the first headquarters of the Royal Air Force (RAF) during WW1. Hotel Cecil was mostly demolished in 1930 The item is an antique walnut burl and brass box that reads Hotel Cecil/ Hairdressing Dept/ Strand inside. 7 x 3.25 x 1.75.


This leather box with rounded front corners and slight convex top has a simple, rugged look intended for use by a man. The leather is adorned only with some stitching around the top. The interior is lined with red velvet. There is a special space for rings at the back. Made mid 20th Century. 7-1/2" x 5-1/2" x 2-1/2" tall.

Very attractive antique inlaid wood decorative box. Great for jewelry or keepsakes. The body of the box is a dark wood and there are sinuous foliate patterns of light wood inlaid into the top and sides. The lid is attached with two hinges. We don't have the key for the lock. Made 19th C, possibly in Italy. 9" x 6" x 4" tall.

Spectacular silver trinket or letter box by Los Castillo of Taxco, Mexico. The top of the box features an Aztec warrior worked in silver, copper and brass over a brass serpent. The background is a mosaic of pieced blue malachite/ azurite. The interior is wood lined. The Castillo brothers are among the most innovative and accomplished artists of the Taxco Renaissance. The use of "married" metals and mosaic are hallmarks of their work. Made in Mexico; mid 20th C. 10.6" x 4.75" x 2.25" tall.

The antique box is made of walnut burl. The inlay in the center of the lid is a classical goddess chariot pulled goats. The design is taken from Roman coins and frescoes and can represent a July festival celebrated by Roman women or wild, untamed nature. The cart is surrounded by twining floral vines with swans done in a lighter wood. There is a working lock and the key in included. The interior is lined with magenta silk. The bottom is tufted. Made in Italy late 19th C. 8-1/4" x 5-3/4" x 2-1/2"

Art Deco Italian Music Box "Dance, Ballerina, Dance." The Art Deco style box is made of fine burl and fruit wood veneers. Diana the Huntress (with hound) is inlaid on the front and enhanced with some hand painting. When the cover is opened 3 grooved trays for cigarettes come down and to the right the mechanical dancing figure pirouettes in front of 3 mirrors as the tune "Dance, Ballerina, Dance" plays. Made in Italy circa 1948. The musical movement was made in Switzerland by Reuge. 11" x 5-3/4"

Cinnabar is a natural mineral that is added to lacquer to create its vermillion hue. This box was created by coating it with hundreds of coats of lacquer and then carving the intricate scene you see. 5-5/8" x 3-3/4" x 2" tall.

Tunbridge Ware is a decorative inlaid woodwork, primarily in the form of boxes, that originated in Tunbridge Wells, England, during the 18th and 19th centuries. It is characterized by intricate mosaic patterns created with small pieces of colored wood. Made in England, 1900s. 12” x 7” x 6.5” tall.

Antique black lacquer box with gold decoration. All the figures, except the samurai, are reacting to something unseen off to the left which creates a sense of drama in the otherwise pastoral Japanese scene. 10” x 8 1/2” x 2 1/2” tall.
